The EU withdrawal form and button for Shopify

Since 19 June 2026, EU law requires online shops to let customers withdraw from a purchase with a clearly labelled button. This app adds the two-step form to your store, sends the acknowledgment email and keeps a record for you. Customers do not need to log in.

How it works

A withdrawal page on your own store, in your theme and your customer's language. Nothing to code.

  1. Your customer clicks the link

    A link with the legal label sits in your footer, so it is on every page. It opens the form on your own domain.

  2. Two steps, no login

    Name, email and order number. When the order matches, they choose the products. Then they press the confirmation button.

  3. Acknowledged and recorded

    They get an email with the content, date and time right away. You get a notification, an order tag and a record you can export.

Built for the law, not around it

Article 11a of the Consumer Rights Directive, added by Directive (EU) 2023/2673, sets exact rules for the withdrawal function. The app follows them.

Questions

What exactly does the law require?

Online traders in the EU must offer a withdrawal function labelled "withdraw from contract here" or an unambiguous equivalent, available and easy to find during the whole withdrawal period. Customers enter their name, the order and an email address, then confirm with a button labelled "confirm withdrawal" or an equivalent. The trader then sends an acknowledgment of receipt on a durable medium, such as email, with the content and the date and time. The rules apply since 19 June 2026 (Article 11a of Directive 2011/83/EU; in the Netherlands article 6:230oa of the Civil Code).

Is Shopify's own returns feature not enough?

Shopify's self-serve returns run through customer accounts, so guest customers may have to log in first. The withdrawal function has to be as easy to use as buying was. This app works without any login.

I sell personalised products. Do I still need this?

Goods made to the customer's specifications are exempt from the right of withdrawal, but most stores also sell products that are not. The app shows personalised items as exempt, and you decide on each request.

Does it work with my theme and languages?

Yes. The form is served by Shopify inside your own theme, on your own domain, with no theme code changes. Stores with several languages get the form in the language of the visitor.

Where is the data stored?

Withdrawal records are stored in a database in the European Union. See the privacy policy and the data processing addendum.

Is this legal advice?

No. The app provides the withdrawal function and the acknowledgment. Your terms, refund policy and the way you handle requests remain your responsibility; check them with a legal professional.
